Living in a quiet neighborhood, away from downtown in Buenos Aires City, has some great surprises: last Friday at rush hour I made it to Retiro station, by train, in 30 minutes.

Bus ride to Mendoza with Francisco Bochaton & band; 14 hs ride, good bus, entertaining movie: Apocalypto.

Asado at the venue's owner's house, short siesta and then soundcheck. My guitar amp is too small. I will handle.

may 31, mendoza

robert fripp soundscapes & the league of crafty guitarists tour

the first entry in my blog after several months.

between my return from japan and this tour I have been very busy moving to a new house, playing with charly garcia, with francisco bochaton (also recording for his new cd), with samalea,

...also with roxana amed, flopa, vertigo colectivo and with la national film chamber orchestra at malba and canal 7 tv

my last concert with charly took place at plaza de mayo april 30th, at the anniversary of madres de plaza de mayo. our last piece was the argentinean national anthem

reharsals with the league in buenos aires began june 17 at my studio,

it was for my a great challenge playing the repertoire on my ovation guitar since I have been playing almost exclusively the electric for years; I welcomed the challenge

once robert arrived in buenos aires on may 24 the league began rehearsals with him at tnt on 25th. this is a legendary recording studio downtown buenos aires,

last tuesday we played a 20 minutes showcase for the press at nd ateneo followed by a press comference;

yesterday our first concert, to a very enthusiastic and supportive audience, at teatro la comedia in rosario. my mother was there and she loved the show.

after the show we had dinner backstage, delicious food, prepared by members of the rosario guitar circle. then we loaded the bus and drove 13 hours to mendoza. gas oil is not easily available at gas stations, so there was a risk we wouldn't make it... at my arrival at the hotel I was told that reservations were made for tomorrow...but here I am, at a restaurant in mendoza waiting for a filet de merluza con pure while charly sounds on the radio

in the evening rehearsal at teatro independencia

dinner at tomasso, with important news and announcements

walked back to the hotel...freezing cold in mendoza

tokyo > buenos aires

16/1/07

tokyo > san francisco > washington > buenos aires.

15/1/07

kabusacki/ katsui/ nakamura at superdeluxe, tokyo

an earthquake shook the hotel before I got to bed. ouch!

14/1/07

kabusacki yamamoto katsui at uplink factory. superb little auditorium. remarkable performance. walked around shibuya and back to hotel for packing.

13/1/07

buffalo daughter + cornelius + kabusacki + friends at daikanyama unit.

hot show! buffalo daughter sounded amazing. they blew me away! we got louder and louder...audience very excited. I also found myself playing in ways I don't usually play. I also played with zak and yumiko, an improvised set. here's zak...

my loop station wasn't working....after the performance I saw it was connected like this....

the dressing room wall

great to meet cornelius (sensous things), his show was stunning.

back to the hotel at 4:00

12/1/07

I played with yuji katsui and yuji oniki at lete, in shimokitazawa. also exhibited moni's paintings. small and warm venue. the first show felt like a dress rehearsal. the second show sold out, packed. very good moments. we did a cover of neil young's down by the river. good to see emiko and the embassy friends. one of moni's paintings was sold after the show (one of my favorites, actually). dinner at a very nice okinawan restaurant near the venue.

kyoto > osaka > nagoya > tokyo

7/1/07

kabusacki, yoshimi, yamamoto & senju at bridge, osaka

the first gig of the tour, went marvelous for me. having played with seiichi, yoshimi and senju is such a privilege. so luxurious! I'm happy, the audience was enthusiastic. my guitar sounded good.

my equipment on this tour: g&l telecaster > fuzz factory > rat > boss compressor > digitech whammy II > volume pedal > boss rc2 loop station > boss dd20 giga delay > kaoss pad II > roland jazz chorus 120

the train ride back to kyoto was very long (seiichi and I almost missed the last train). I was very tired.

8/1/07

no gigs tonight, I walked around kyoto, one of the most beautiful cities in the world for me. bought a roland ev50 volume pedal. snow in kyoto.

9/1/07

kyoto urbanguild, with kei, yoshitake and marron and 2 drummers. very powerful performance. I found myself playing in ways I never do

10/1/07

drive to nagoya in marron's van. passed through shiga, which I remembered from a few years ago. over 3 hs drive.
in nagoya we played at parlwr, formerly called canolfan. a nice venue. very rich first set. forced second set which for me felt like a long encore. delicious traditional nagoyan chicken wings for dinner.

11/1/07

rehearsal with buffalo daughter at deuce studios. asked directions to a policeman...after 10 minutes trying to explain how to get to deuce he gave up and said "just go down". as I was wolking down the road I see sugar and yumiko in a car, they were going to get me at the train station. the band is so kind, so nice. great sounding studio. fun. buffalo daughter rocks.
