2 shows at malba with la national film chamber orchestra, featuring matias mango, juan ravioli, guillermo novelli (from nova electrocamara quartet) and myself...on the second show featuring mr charly garcia as guest, with an amazing vocoder performance. after the show charly and I intended to go for pizza at a restaurant near his place, but a hord of unrespectful fans made it impossible...we ended up having pizza at ch's place...

3 shows with francisco bochaton...2 different lineups...at parque lezama we played with former los brujos drummer quique...powerful! ca. 6000 audience...a hot show...

in pinamar and mar del plata we played at the beach, with drummer chris fab...a wider repertoire... travelling back and forth on the van was exhausting...I was scared many times during the trips...

the venue in mar del plata

my pedals

la national film chamber orchestra began recordings at canal 7 tv. my synth didn't respond properly, so a had a hard time...the jaguar needs fine adjustment..I like this guitar, and I'm developing a relationship with it!!!

recordings for juan ravioli's new cd at feli's studio near parque centenario, produced by himself and mauro taranto. a stunning record coming up!!!!!! flopa was in the session. the fuel was pepsi, bizcochos and flavored ham provided by juan.

rehearsal with andra borlo's buenos aires band, directed by berry, featuring fernando samalea (drums), alejandro teran (viola), paul dourge (bass), berry (piano) and myself (ac. and electric gtrs). we will be recording at ion this weekend. andra's voice is so powerful, and the songs have been turning around my head throughout the week!

in japan

24/12/07

breakfast at donq cafe with yamamoto, who is playing a christmas eve concert tonight in tokyo with otomo and jim orourke...i wish I'd be there!

taxi to kyoto station...shinkansen to kyoto station...narita express to the airport, to find out that luggage rules changed, so instead of paying a ridiculous sum for luggage excess i opted for a new small suitcase (quite nice actually) and distribute the weight...

economy plus is ok!

listened to belle and sebastian, then stanley brothers and now joe strummer & the mescaleros; watched 2 movies and listened to tom petty's xm program.

now at washington dulles airport, 4 more hours to wait

merry christmas!

23/12/07

this morning i was brave enough to have a shower at gingetsu apt. (I've been showering at yamamoto's house so far). located at the end of the open air corridor of this wonderful old building...not bad at all! wit a coin operated water bolier... yamamoto informed me that many artists live in this building, and member of famous kyoto punk and noise bands from the 80s

walked on shirakawa street trying to find a coffee shop open. nothing decent. so I took 5 bus to museum of modern art. after so much man made art i visited the zoo. wonderful beasts! elephants, lions, tigers, bears, monkeys...the gorillas were amazing. oh, how I wished my daughter was there with me!!!!!! i bought a hello kitty balloon for her, and took several photos.then back to number 5 bus, back downtown, buying christmas presents for family. here at book 1st store...i've been given a ticket for a free cup of coffee. thanks!

sakane came to visit with a friend who lived in cordoba for over 2 years! his spanish is very good, he gave me some apples that saved my night...after packing I was starving. yamamoto visited later. we watched the dylan at newport dvd, stunnning.

22/12/07

raining in kyoto

breakfast at the art school, just across the road from gingetsu apartments, then visit to yamamoto's house. together we went to tranq room for afternoon soup. delicious! then to meet with senior ivan downtown. back home on 5 bus and packing until 1am

21/12/07

delicious breakfast at takeyama's!!!!!!!! then coffee with masaya, kei and sayuri at cafe amigo

back from nagoya with the sinkansen train; comfortable and fast

I visited one of the most beautiful places on earth: the sisen-do temple

then shopping dowtown kyoto and off to see the dokuros at ohlala

they were great!

back home on 203 bus, via tenkaipin noodles and a call home

20/12/07

travelled to nagoya

played at parlwr; difficult to connect with the players...

the venue is so nice, warm...I always enjoy playing there...

tasty chicken wings at nagoya's most traditional place (mr chicken....) and off to takeyama's place

very cozy and comfortable

shinkansen train tokyo > kyoto with seiichi

at our arrival in kyoto station, photogapher and editor were waiting for us. I was very sleepy as I came out from the train...

they came with us to metro. the venue door

last night I played at cay, tokyo, two sets:

first set with buffalo daughter (sugar on electric guitar, yumiko on synthesizers and moog on turntables and effects!) and mr akira on drums;

second set with seiichi yamamoto (electric guitar), yuji katsui (electric violin) and yasuhiro yoshigaki (drums and percussion)

very very exciting...very crowded house, with a very generous and entghusiastic audience standing

my setup: fender jaguar > korg pandora (tuner mode) > fuzz factory > mxr distortion III > whammy > boss volume pedal > boss loop station > boss giga delay I > boss giga delay II > korg kaoss pad > roland JC 120 amp

at the end of the first set I injured my right wrist...(partly sequel of an unfortunate yoga posture 15 years ago and playing fast with a pick that is too soft with an unorthodox right hand...) so for the second set I was in terrible pain...nevertheless there we were and we made a lot of noise...and good noise!!!!!!!!!!

the feeling aftyer the show was very good, among friends, audience, musicians, record label stuff ond organizers. dinner with sake at a very nice restaurant (although jazz was too loud for my ears...) in omote sando and taxi to the hotel

skype video with the beautiful girls back home and to bed at 2AM

Karlhienz Stockhausen

:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sat., Dec 8, 2007

Last night the death German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen was announced. It’s difficult to exaggerate the impact and influence this figure had upon the world of contemporary music in the 20th Century.

Interestingly, Stockhausen set up of his own publishing in 1969 and took control of his catalogue by setting up his own label not long after. By way of a tangential King Crimson connection, Robin Miller, whose sublime oboe playing graced Lizard, Islands and Red also performed Stockhausen’s music in the 70s and appeared on the Stop/Ylem release.

There’s been a number of tributes and comments the BBC, The Guardian (thanks to Edisciple for the link) two good overviews in the Daily Telegraph (and here) and my own thoughts on his legacy.

colourful wednesday

on tuesday evening I went to no avestruz to see my friend anla courtis playing with a superb drummer called chris corsano, stunning improv. corsano is presently on tour with bjork.

wednesday: after a long day of guitar lessons I visited charly to deliver his birthday gift: 3 essential dvds

around 21:30 charly said I'm to see bjork...I said can I join...he said sure!

so I left my car at his place and there we went... charly, gaby and I to teatro gran rex for bjork's concert. charly and g had tickets...so I couldn't get in but stayed at the door talking with friends...charly comes out the theatre and said let's go to hotel faena, pedro will join us and we'll meet with bjork there. there we went...

we stayed at faena hotel until we got a call saying bjork was waiting at the theatre dressing room...there we went, with charly and pedro packed in my car...

we arrived at the gran rex, we got into the dressing rooms area and charly said let's go to la ideal, there we'd meet bjork and the musicians...so there we went...pedro went back home...and we had pizza, champagne and beer with bjork and a group of icelandic women, most of them musicians, in a deligthful venue with a live tango band playing, some people dancing and a few other celebs at the table. I drove charly back around 3:00 and drove back home.

on this photo taken by ludovico, I'm sharing the stage at biblioteca nacional de buenos aires with mr miguelius a few weeks ago; a duet of vocal beat box and guitar synth beat box!

good news! buffalo daughter's sugar, yumiko and moog and drummer sotoyama will join me at the cay concert next december 16th in tokyo...yes!!!!!!

Friday, November 02, 2007

last night francisco bochaton band played in san miguel, in the province of buenos aires. nice venue. big. a fan came into the dressing room to take some photos before the show. her husband broke in and made a very uncomfortable scandal...this somehow ruined our performance. quite upsetting.

here's a photo from bochaton band last friday at nd ateneo, by chris castello. thanks!!!

Thursday, November 01, 2007

ludovico, from la nave de los suenos, gave me a collection of photos from the metropolis concert at canal 7, the concert with miguelius at biblioteca nacional, charly's concert at la trastienda and charly's birthday at roxy last week.

here some from roxy...thanks ludovico! I will post more soon

reharsals with bochaton in preparation for nd ateneo and rehearsals with flopa (with juan ravioli on drums!)

last monday a concert with charly, celebrating his 56th birthday at the roxy. many celebrities and very many guitarists on stage!!!!!!!! the highlight for me was the presence of pedro aznar

here's a photo (of a series of very good ones) from last year's celebration at gran rex from www.flickr.com/negritorojinegro
